Introduction
QuestCompanion respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how the QuestCompanion application and its related online services handle information and data.
QuestCompanion can be used without creating an account. Optional account features are available through Google Sign-In.
By using QuestCompanion, you agree to the practices described in this Privacy Policy.
Information Stored Locally on Your Device
Most QuestCompanion features work without an account.
Information stored locally on your device may include:
- downloaded companions
- user-created companions
- checklist and tracker progress
- game notes
- app settings and preferences
- recently opened games
This local information is not automatically uploaded to your QuestCompanion account.
Signing out, deleting your account, or switching to a different Google account does not remove local companions, notes, settings, or progress from the device.
Deleting the app or clearing its storage may permanently remove locally stored information.
Optional Account Information
When you choose to sign in with Google, QuestCompanion uses Firebase Authentication to verify and manage your account.
Account-related information may include:
- your Google account email address
- a Firebase-generated user identifier
- your chosen public QuestCompanion username
- account role
- account status
- account creation date
Your Google email is used to sign you in and manage your account. It is never shown publicly.
QuestCompanion does not copy your email address into your public QuestCompanion profile document. Your email remains part of the private authentication information managed through Firebase Authentication.
Public Username
When creating an account, you choose a public QuestCompanion username.
Your username may be displayed publicly in connection with:
- companions you publish
- creator profile information
- community interactions
- likes, requests, or other account features added in the future
Do not use a username or publish content that contains private, sensitive, or personally identifying information you do not want others to see.
User-Generated and Published Content
Users may be able to create and publish companions through QuestCompanion.
Published content may include:
- companion titles
- companion descriptions
- checklist entries
- collectible information
- quest information
- lore entries
- builder or crafting information
- trophy information
- associated game information
- creator attribution
Published companions may be reviewed, approved, rejected, removed, or restricted for moderation, legal, security, or quality reasons.
Users should not include personal, confidential, illegal, infringing, abusive, or sensitive information in published content.
Published Content After Account Deletion
If an account is deleted, approved companions previously published by that account may remain available to other users.
When this occurs:
- the deleted user’s public username will no longer be displayed
- creator attribution will be replaced with Deleted User
- the companion will no longer be linked to the deleted account
- the deleted account will no longer be able to edit, manage, or reclaim ownership of the companion
This allows useful published content to remain available without continuing to identify or associate it with the deleted user.
Unpublished, rejected, private, or pending content may be deleted when the account is deleted.
Google and Firebase Services
QuestCompanion uses services provided by Google and Firebase, which may include:
- Google Sign-In
- Firebase Authentication
- Cloud Firestore
- Firebase Storage
- Firebase Cloud Functions
- Firebase Hosting
- Google Play Services
These services may process information as necessary to provide account authentication, username reservation, account management, online companion browsing, companion publishing, companion storage and distribution, moderation features, backend services, and hosted privacy and account-deletion pages.
Google and Firebase may process technical and account information according to their own terms, security practices, and privacy policies.
Online Companion Browsing and Downloads
QuestCompanion allows users to browse and download approved online companions without signing in.
Downloaded companions are stored locally on the user’s device.
An account is not required to browse approved companions, download companions, use downloaded companions, track progress, or create local companions.
Account sign-in is primarily used for publishing, creator attribution, moderation, and other account-related features.
File Access
QuestCompanion may access files selected by the user for supported functions.
These functions may include importing companion data, exporting companion data, sharing companion data, creating backups, and restoring supported files.
Files selected by the user are accessed only for the action requested by the user.
Available import and export features may change over time.
Data Sharing
QuestCompanion does not sell personal information.
QuestCompanion does not share personal information with advertising networks.
Information may be processed by Google and Firebase as necessary to operate authentication, databases, storage, hosting, security, and other backend functionality.
Information may also be disclosed when reasonably necessary to comply with applicable law or legal process, prevent fraud or abuse, investigate security incidents, enforce platform rules, protect users or others, or respond to valid governmental or legal requests.
Analytics, Advertising, and Tracking
QuestCompanion does not currently use third-party advertising networks or behavioral advertising systems.
QuestCompanion does not currently use personal information for targeted advertising.
If analytics, crash reporting, advertising, or additional tracking technologies are added in the future, this Privacy Policy and applicable Google Play disclosures will be updated.
Account Deletion
Users can permanently delete their QuestCompanion account from inside the app.
- Sign in to QuestCompanion.
- Open the app menu.
- Select Profile.
- Select Delete Account.
- Complete the confirmation and Google identity-verification steps.
Account deletion removes the Firebase Authentication account, the QuestCompanion user profile, the reserved username, and the account’s ownership connection to retained published companions.
Approved published companions may remain available and will be attributed to Deleted User.
Local companions, notes, settings, and progress stored on the device are not deleted as part of account deletion.
Users who cannot access the app may review account-deletion instructions or request assistance through QuestCompanion’s public account-deletion webpage or by contacting questcompanionofficial@gmail.com.
Data Retention
Account information is retained while an account remains active.
When a user deletes an account, QuestCompanion deletes the account’s authentication record, profile document, and username reservation.
Approved published companions may be retained after account deletion, but their creator attribution and account ownership connection will be removed.
Limited information may be retained when reasonably necessary for moderation, fraud prevention, abuse prevention, security investigations, legal compliance, dispute resolution, or enforcement of platform rules.
Locally stored information remains on the user’s device until the user deletes it, clears app storage, or uninstalls the app.
Data Security
QuestCompanion uses authentication controls, Firebase Security Rules, and other reasonable safeguards to limit access to account and cloud-based data.
Reasonable efforts are made to protect information from unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction.
However, no method of electronic storage, transmission, or online service can be guaranteed to be completely secure.
Users are responsible for protecting access to their Google account and device.
Children’s Privacy
QuestCompanion is not directed toward children under the age of 13.
QuestCompanion does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
If the developer learns that personal information from a child under 13 has been collected, reasonable steps will be taken to delete it.
User Responsibilities
Users are responsible for keeping their Google account secure, avoiding private or sensitive information in public usernames and published content, complying with applicable laws and community rules, and maintaining backups of important local data when desired.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy may be updated periodically as QuestCompanion changes.
Changes will be reflected by updating the Last Updated date at the top of this policy.
Users are encouraged to review this Privacy Policy periodically.
